The Council on Foreign Relations has recently released a podcast discussing the implications that climate change has for the Horn of Africa. James Lindsay and Michelle Gavin discuss the implications that climate change has in destabilising the region by exacerbating existing vulnerabilities such as food insecurity and civil unrest.
Michelle highlights how changing demographics and weak regional governance make it difficult for countries in the Horn to adapt to changing meteorological conditions. They also touch on issues of inter-state competition over water resources, and what role the United States can play in promoting dialogue and cooperation in the region.
