The Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) is holding its 14th annual forum in Amman, Jordan for the period 3 - 5 December 2021. This year's forum 'Journalism & Accountability in a Disrupted World' will be a hybrid event connecting speakers and attendees from all over the world. The ARIJ forum is the Arab world’s largest gathering for investigative journalists. It offers opportunities to explore new topics and directions that tackle current challenges facing the region. One of the emerging topics of this year's forum is climate change and its impacts on security.
The relation between climate change and conflict in the Middle East has already been established. Therefore, it is important to have reliable regional investigative journalism covering the topic. Together with Free Press Unlimited (FPU) and the French Media Development Agency (CFI), the Planetary Security Initiative (PSI) is co-organising a panel on climate change, conflict and journalism on Saturday, 4 December (15.30 - 16.50 Amman time). Speakers will reflect on the role of media in relation to climate action and explore engaging story-telling approaches to make sure that people affected are heard. During this panel, Free Press Unlimited will announce the final training session for Iraqi journalists on climate change impact on the environment and security in Iraq. PSI has been cooperating with FPU on training Iraqi young journalists on solution-based journalism on the topic of climate change. Since 2020, we have produced several reports and multimedia content and they were published by local and regional platforms and the PSI website.
