On November 22nd The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Security and Defence will host a public hearing on the implications of climate change for EU common Security and Defence Policy. Clingendael, in collaboration with Free Press Unlimited, is hosting a journalists training on Climate Security for the Planetary Security Conference. Journalists from Iraq, Mali, Ethiopia, Nepal and Sudan have been invited to attend this conference, as the people living in these regions are frequently confronted with the effects of climate change.

Side event on climate security at COP23

The PSI side event on climate security risks will take place on Friday November 17 in the German Pavillon. It discusses how climate change acts as a “threat multiplier”, aggravating already fragile situations and contributing to security risks. This event will focus on areas for which climate change poses an immediate threat to public safety and an existential threat in the long-term, such as the Lake Chad crisis and the Small Island States.
