Dr. Maarten van Aalst

Maarten van Aalst is Director of the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, working at the interface of climate science, policy and practice, advising the international Red Cross Red Crescent movement and its partners. He holds adjoint positions at Columbia University and University College London.

Maarten was lead author in the IPCC, and was appointed by Ban Ki Moon to the leadership group of his A2R resilience initiative. He previously worked with international organisations such as the World Bank, regional development banks, OECD, and UNDP. He holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Utrecht University.
